Why I Love Sliding Closet Doors

When renovating or redecorating a room, many aspects of the room are improved. The walls are perfected and painted, and flooring is selected and improved. Even ceilings and light fixtures get a new look. Often times, the interior doors are neglected. Installing a new closet door can not only give the room an entirely new look, but it can also save space and even increase the amount of space the sliding closet doors do use.

Sliding closet doors work by taking two door panels on a track. The door panels sit one in front of the other on the track, and when closed they overlap slightly in the middle. When opened, one panel may be entirely behind the other. The surface of the panel may be a regular door that can be painted to match decor, or it may be mirrored like sliding mirror doors. A sliding door works to maximize space in a room. With a traditional closet door, the door takes up a large amount of space when opened. Sliding doors simply move to the side rather than taking up floor space within the room when opened. This allows for more floor space and more space to move around. A mirrored door also visually adds space because of the reflective mirror. Mirrors make a room look larger, so the large mirrors on the closet doors add a lot of depth to a room. There are a variety of doors to suit every taste and budget.

Sliding doors also have the variation of being bi-fold doors. These doors have two panels side by side with handles on the inside edge of each panel. When pulled, the doors fold in half and slide to the outsides. These doors also create more space in a room since they do not take up floor space like a traditional door when opened. Bi-fold doors are a beautiful touch to a room.

Many different manufacturers make sliding closet doors, like Stanley and John Louis. The most common hardware for mounting sliding doors is made by Johnson, and is used in most types of sliding doors sold on the market today.
